What do the diagnostic lights mean when they come on the dashboard?
If you get a diagnostic warning light on that is red in colour it generally means that something is serious and you should stop and switch off the engine straight away. If you don’t you risk serious damage and that means its potentially going to cost you lots of money. The light that looks like the engine can illuminate for many different reasons and is related to a fault in the engine or the engine electronics system. This light is often orange in colour and when it is on the engine may have reduced power.
A yellow or amber light comes on the dashboard the best thing to do is pull over and see if there is anything wrong like low tyre pressure and check all your levels, generally, it will be ok to continue but this does not mean its perfectly ok of course and as soon as possible you need to have it checked out by a professional.
